The exhibition “Blumbergs in Liepāja”

The exhibition includes a variety of works by the artist Ilmārs Blumbergs (1943-2016), covering his creative period from the 1990-s to the last years of life – paintings, objects, sculpture works and photographs, so that the extensive range of displayed artworks gives the viewer a detailed insight into the artist’s legacy.

Ilmārs Blumbergs graduated from the Latvian Academy of Arts in 1972 and worked at the Dailes Theatre in Rīga until 1984. Later on in the following years worked individually in areas such as painting, graphics, screen printing, lithography, installation, sculpture, design, scenography, costumes, photography, book illustrations, cinema, performance and audio recordings.

Between 1974 and 2013, I.Blumbergs organised more than 25 personal exhibitions in nine countries and received more than 40 major awards. The artist’s works are included in museum collections in Latvia, Russia, Germany, Finland, Lithuania, France, Australia, Estonia and the United States.

After the artist’s death, the exhibitions continue to be organized by the Blumbergs Foundation, and this exhibition in Liepāja is the seventh in this time span.
