A Travelling Exhibition of Three-Dimensional Illustrations to Imants Ziedonis’ “COLOURFUL TALES”

In 2023, several significant Latvian cultural projects, including this exhibition, were presented in Strasbourg as part of the cultural programme of Latvia’s Presidency of the Committee of Ministers of the Council of Europe.

This project was dedicated to the 90th anniversary of the birth of the distinguished Latvian poet, essayist and writer Imants Ziedonis and was exhibited at the André Malraux Media Library in Strasbourg, France. Having returned home, the exhibition continues to travel across Latvia. Its next stop is Liepāja!

For the exhibition’s creators — artist Ināra Liepa and Uldis Liepa — Imants Ziedonis’ journey through Latvia’s cultural landscape, life and history is associated with experimentation, openness to new ideas and an inexhaustible creative curiosity: always travelling, always in motion, just as the poet himself loved to be.

For the artists, the three-dimensional illustrations to Ziedonis’ “Colourful Tales” represent a slightly different chapter in their ongoing exploration of new creative territories, while retaining their distinctive artistic style. The works on display introduce audiences to Imants Ziedonis’ writing in an innovative way, sparking the interest of younger generations as well.

The name and talent of poet and essayist Imants Ziedonis (1933–2013) continue to attract widespread public interest, engaging admirers and researchers of the renowned Latvian poet’s work both in Latvia and around the world.

The exhibition runs from 1 October 2026 to 9 May 2027.
