Personal exhibition of the painter Ilze Karlsone “The Autumnal stop”
The idea of the painter Ilze Karlsone is, that this exhibition is depicted as an exciting journey across Latvia reflecting stops at the rural vastness, stop by the sea, taking a glimpse in to the old cemetery and finally, transforming conventional painting realism into an abstraction – the refracted lines.
In her art, Ilze Karlsone is interested in the beauty of the Latvian landscape. There is no direct concretism in her paintings, it is rather a generalization of places, visualization of mood, strict order of colour rhythms – clouds like floating islands, horizon line, earth beat, refracted sea wave lines, colour contrast and composition dynamics. The artist is attracted to abstract art, minimalism, large and pure colour squares.
Ilze Karlsone was born in Rīga. She studied at the Department of Metal and Amber Processing of Liepāja Secondary School of Applied Arts and continued her studies at the Design Department of the Latvian Academy of Arts, graduating as a graphic artist in 1977. In 2003 Ilze Karlsone graduated with a master’s degree in Arts and Design. Since 1997, she teaches drawing and painting classes at the Liepāja High School for Music, Art and Design.
The artist is a member of the Union of Artists. Her personal exhibitions were held in Rīga (2018, 2008, 1992) and Liepāja (2015). Since 1976, Ilze Karlsone has also actively participated in joint exhibitions of artists with her graphic and painting works.
