Philosophically meditative sculpture art of Raimonds Gabaliņš
On Saturday, May 25th at 15.00, in the Gallery “Roman Garden”, which is located on Zivju Street 3 in Liepāja, there will be the opening of an exhibition followed by the concert, marking an important anniversary of the artist Raimonds Gabaliņš; the exhibition is titled “The philosophical meditations of the sculptor Raimonds Gabaliņš”. The opening concert will be performed by the “Jazz for five” band, which will feature the author of the exhibition himself as a drummer of the band.
The exhibition will display the artist’s sculpture and stationary conceptual art. Most of the artworks have been done in recent years, including sculptural items from the edge of the last century. In his creations, the artist uses a variety of materials, such as steel, granite, marble, glass, wood, semi-precious stones. Works reflect styles of supremacism and constructiveness, both very close to the author – pure shapes, multi-layered in physical and philosophical planes.
Inviting viewers to the personal exhibition, the artist expresses his reflections and admits: “You can only stare in your life’s eyes after a certain time. Your age serves this purpose. At the very beginning of ageing, the main guide to it, is a double sight. This soothe schizophrenia is the first positive sign of a human becoming a philosopher.
Who is a philosopher? The one who sees and considers everything as a “matter-of-fact”. Including, seeing yourself from someone else’s point of view. He distinguishes sin from a sinner, a virtue from hypocrisy. The reality and truth are distinguished from the seeming and false, the genuine beauty from the sensual lust, the true benefit from the plain profit, the wisdom of the knowledge from sciolism. ”
