Exhibition of the artist Igors Bernāts “The Affiliation”

On Friday, January 17th at 18.00, in the Bertschy Hall of the Gallery “Roman Garden” on Zivju iela 3 in Liepāja, there will the an opening of the personal exhibition of the artist Igors Bernāts. The exhibition will include works that have been created over the last three years. During this period, the artist has turned to abstraction by renouncing figural and pictorial compositions.

Looking for a multidimensional expression of inner feelings, the artist Igors Bernāts admits: “The affiliation as self-awareness is like wandering in a vast space and with the need to return to the starting point. It is a search for a relationship with past, history and personal memory. This encourage to thinking about new forms, experiments that express feelings rather than illustrate them. The art form emerges from my experience of fixing it, being aware”.

While the artist is actively participating in exhibitions, in Liepāja his last exhibition “The time loops”, was only in 2013. This time, artist Igors Bernāts offers paintings to local residents and city guests, ranging from canvas deformations to abstractions dominated by different squares of colour, colour palettes and experiments with varnishes.

Igors Bernāts was born and grew up in Liepāja. Studied in the decorator’s program at the Liepāja Applied Arts High School, which he had graduated in 1984. Continued his studies at The Latvian Academy of Arts and graduated it in 1993. He is a member of the Latvian Artists Union since 1992. Participates actively in artist joint exhibitions and organises personal exhibitions in art galleries and museums on a regular basis. The artist’s works are in private collections in Germany and Scandinavian countries.

The artist’s painting “Barcelona” was recognized as the 2017 winner of the “Painting of the Year” contest and the winner of the “Swedbank Private Banking” award, where the painting of Mr Bernāts won amidst 106 works in competition.

Currently, in parallel to his creative activities, Igors Bernāts teaches drawing and painting at the Rīga High School of Design and Arts.

The exhibition in the gallery of “Roman Garden” will be open till March 28th. The opening event of the exhibition is free of charge. After opening: entry ticket price for adults €2, 50, students and seniors €1.00; for children – free entry.
