On September 13, at 16.00 in the gallery “Roman Gardens” in Liepāja, Zivju Street 3, there will be an opening of a joint exhibition “Non – disappearing Liepāja 2019” of Liepāja Society of Artists “MĀKSLAS KOLĒĢI” and “FOTAST” Photo Studio of Liepāja Centre for Folk Art and Culture.

The “Non-disappearing Liepāja” exhibition has already become traditional and for the second year in a row reflects the diverse points of view from local artists’ perspective on the city and its changing environment. Since this time the exhibition was created as a joint project between the two creative organizations, artworks by its content will be equally diverse as well, ranging from classical plain air paintings, drawings, photos and up to collage type art. This collaboration is an interesting challenge for both groups of artists, and the theme “Non – disappearing Liepāja” is a unifying guideline for each of the artists represented in the exhibition.

The architecture of Liepāja city is unique and respect worthy, it inspires both artists and photographers. Cooperation between different kinds of art allows to enrich yourself creatively, discover the city from different angles, and show the most important and interesting characteristic of Liepāja.

Artists of the MĀKSLAS KOLĒĢI society captured Liepāja in paintings and graphic works in the summer. A particular attention was paid to the city streets, courtyards, facades of houses and their fragments, documenting them in their artworks. As to how different are members of the Society of Artists “MĀKSLAS KOLĒĢI”, so as different is their creative artistic image of the city.

Photographers from the Photo Studio “FOTOAST” from the Liepāja Centre for Folk Art and Culture note that in Liepāja everyone has their own special place. It is related to numbers of lifetime events, places, people and adventures. Photographers through the lens of their cameras and their personal perception reflect that, in their opinion, the non-disappearing Liepāja would not be possible without the sea, typical for Liepāja metal carvings, wooden buildings and sunsets. Artworks for the exhibition are selected in the modern and ancient photo archives, all together emphasizing the perception of Liepāja and its surroundings.

The exhibition “Non – disappearing Liepāja 2019” will be open until October 12.

Entry ticket price for adults €2, 50, students and seniors €1.00; for children – free entry.
