Exhibition “Maritime climate”

As of June 7th, the joint exhibition “Maritime climate” of the painter Ingemāra Treija and ceramic artist Kristīne Lazdāne will be available on display at the art gallery “Roman Garden”. This is the artists’ first joint exhibition in Liepāja, where Ingemāra Treija shows her paintings, while Kristīne Lazdāne participates in the exhibition with her ceramic items.

While creating this joint exhibition, both artists are inviting visitors to talk about the mutual effects and relationships between painting and ceramic art. By including both forms of art in one exhibition, artists play with a relationship between the shapes, expressions and spatial arrangements of artworks. At the same time, artists and their artworks deliberately invite you to discover how the two dimensions of the objects move into three and give you the opportunity to look even for the fourth one – the elusive, sensational and association-based.

The painter Ingemāra Treija dares to handles colors, contrasting tones and textures in her art. She is equally formidable in both, drawing and painting. Urban views, still nature, landscape, waters, meadows and forests – all of which is the background for the main hero character of artist paintings – a human. She clearly positions herself as a talented portraitist. In Ingemāra’s paintings, one may often recognize her friends, colleagues, relatives, as well as people close to her from the old family photos. The paintings also show the artist’s self-portrait, both in the direct and general meaning context.

The second section of the “Maritime climate” is composed of the artworks by the ceramic artist Kristīne Lazdāne. The artist displays her both, large-scale sculpture items designed using stone mass and fine and filigree porcelain pieces. The displayed ceramics are characterized by a variety in textures and terrain, creating an easy path to encounter the shape of a seemingly formal object mixed with the artistic reflection based on association reality.
