Uzticis Valters
Painter, teacher.
Worked with oil paint and watercolor techniques. Compositions in historic and genre painting, landscapes, still life and portraits.
Valters Uzticis was born in Daugavpils on 19th of July, 1914.
Studied at the Liepaja Art and Craft School (1932-1936). On 1943 Valters Uzticis finished Figurative painting class lead by L. Liberts at the Art Academy of Latvia (with the work “Swimmers”).
Worked as a scenic painter at the Liepaja’s City Drama and Opera Theatre (1933-1936), decorator at the Museum of Work in Riga (1937-1938). Valters Uzticis was the artist at the Talsi Art and Regional Museum (1945-1950). Worked as a teacher at the Kuldiga Arts and Crafts School (1950-1952), Liepaja Applied Arts School (1952-1989; has been a head of the Decorative Arts Department). Valters Uzticis has been a chairman of the Liepaja department of Artists’ Union (1960-1964). Worked as a set designer at Liepaja Theatre (1962-1967) and as freelance artist in the Latvian State Publishing House (1940-1941, 1946-1959).
Valters Uzticis was the member of the Fine Art Cooperative (1944) and Artists’ Union since 1959.
Exhibited since 1943. Solo exhibitions in Liepaja (1965, 1979), in Jelgava, Saldus, Tukums (1965), Jurmala and Kuldiga (1974).
Valters Uzticis died in Liepaja on 8th of December, 1991.
