Diņģelis Staņislavs
A painter.
Stanislavs Dingelis was born in Daugavpils on the 18th of April, 1899. Died in Liepaja on the 11th of October, 1988.
S. Dingelis mainly painted figurative works dedicated to the lives of workers, as well as portraits, landscapes and still life. He worked with techniques like oil paint, watercolor and tempera. In his landscapes S. Dingelis often portrayed the forests of Latvia in different seasons alongside with views from city of Liepaja – its parks, port, small streets and wooden houses. The main way of expression in works of S. Dingelis was the color, the subtle sense of tonality that allowed freely to play around the light and air. Expressive language of color was the aspect he continued to develop his whole life.
S. Dingelis spent his childhood years in Daugavpils. During World War I, he went to Moscow, where the artist got intensively interested in painting. After returning to Latvia, S. Dingelis moved to Liepaja. He was an autodidact who mastered basic skills in courses of the Latvian Society for the Encouragement of Arts in Liepaja, as well as privately studying with the painter Konrads Ubans. S. Dingelis exhibited since 1935 and was a member of the Artists’ Union since 1959. In Liepaja the painter actively engaged in the local art life, while working as a locksmith, and taking part in the workshop space “Kombinats Maksla”.
