Peteris Postazs works in all genres of painting in different techniques – oil, tempera, gouache, pastel.

The artist’s figurative compositions are related to daily routines – they represent workers, fishermen, women on the beach, night rituals of the summer solstice, by giving these scenes a symbolic meaning. Peteris Postazs has also worked in the genre of portrait – depicted cultural. In his still life’s he mostly depicted simple everyday objects (jug, pumpkin, fish, onions, pears, black radish etc.) and his painted landscapes are dominated by views of small-towns. Also paints nudes.

The development of Peteris Postazs painting expression has formed from colorfulness to an almost monochromatic painting, dominated by white, yellow, brown, silvery tones in a very sensitive tonality. He’s a very prolific artist. Peteris Postazs also has made book illustrations, tapestries, sketches, also designed interiors.

Peteris Postazs has graduated Janis Rozentals Art School of Riga (1958) and the Department of painting at the Art Academy of Latvia (1964) with a diploma work “Lunch” (supervised by Eduards Kalnins). Worked as an educator at Janis Rozentals Art School of Riga and at the Art Academy of Latvia. Exhibited since 1965, a member of the Artists’ Union since 1968.
