Duškins Pauls
Watercolorist, graphic artist.
The works of Pauls Duskins have formed under the influence of Latvian and Russian art schools. The artist independently studied the art tradition of Western Europe, especially English graphic art, and became a recognizable authority among contemporary graphic artists in his time. He has worked almost with all printmaking techniques and genres. A significant contribution has been made in the development of intaglio printmaking technique, by developing painterly like, impressionistic offset manner that has been carried out most convincingly within his compositions of poetic urban landscapes.
He was one of Latvian graphic artists, who most of all used the dry point technique in all traditional genres. Within lithography works he focused on the problem of color usage. He is also well-known as an author of watercolor works that are expressive and saturated with color and emotions.
Pauls Duskins studied in the Faculty of Architecture at the State University of Latvia (1947–1951), in Department of Graphic Art at the Art Academy of Latvia (1952), in 1959 graduated from the Faculty of Graphic Art at the Ilya Repin Institute of Painting, Sculpture and Architecture in Leningrad (St. Petersburg) with the diploma work – series in offset technique “At the Baltic Shores”.
