Baltgailis Kārlis
Karlis Baltgailis was born in Gatarta, in Cesis Distrcit, on 27th of March, 1893.
Studied at the Studio of Janis Rozentals (1906 – 1907), A. Kenins Secondary School (1907-1911), where Julijs Madernieks was the drawing teacher. In 1917 he graduated from Penza School of Art.
Exhibited since 1913. Solo exhibitions in Jelgava (1923, 1939), Riga (1964), Cesis (1978). Solo exhibitions after his death – in Priekuli (1979), Jelgava (1980) and Cesis (1983).
Until 1940 he was the head of the fine arts sections at the Green Crow association.
From 1945 he was a member of the Association of Artists, excluded in 1950, then reinstated in 1958.
Karlis Baltgailis died in Cesis on 15th of February, 1979.
