Lauva Jānis

Painter.

Janis Lauva was born in Skrunda on the 4th of December, 1906.

Studied at the Art Academy of Latvia (1927-1934), graduated Figurative Painting with the work “To Work” (lead by Gederts Eliass).

Worked as a teacher in Skrunda (from 1938), Kuldiga Art School (1945-1952), Liepaja Applied Arts School (1952-1968).

Was a member of Artists’ Union since 1959 . Exhibited since 1936. Solo exhibitions in Liepaja (1956, 1967, with K. Lejnieks and M. Zavickis, 1976, 1977, 1982), Riga (1966), Skrunda (1976, 1982), Aizpute, Nica (1980), Kuldiga (1982). Memorial exhibition held in Liepaja (1987).

Janis Lauva died the 25th of July, 1986, in Kuldiga, buried in Skrunda cemetery.
