Bromults Alfejs

1913 - 1991

One of the most popular painters of his generation. He painted landscapes, flowers and portraits in realistic manner. A great importance was given to the color.

Alfejs Bromults was born in Kusa parish, in Madona district, on 3rd of April, 1913.

He received his professional education at the People’s from R. Suta, J. Bine, G. Skilters. He studied at J.R.Tillberg’s studio (1938). From 1940 to 1944 he studied at the Art Academy of Latvia. He had begun his diploma painting “The Fair” at the Figurative Painting Class lead by L. Liberts (left unfinished due to the war conditions).

He worked as photo retoucher (1936-1940), as artist-executor in portrait workshop of the workshop space “Kombināts “Māksla”” (1948-1952).

Since 1957 a member of the Artists’ Union of Latvian. Exhibited since 1943. Solo exhibitions in Riga (1959, 1976, 1987, 1988), Tukums (1959), Cesis and Madona (1960), Dobele (1963), Rezekne (1964), in Lithuania (1976), in Abkhazia (1977), also Roja (1978), Limbazi (1981), Liezere (1983) and Saldus (1988). Memorial exhibition in Riga (1991).

Alfejs Bromults died in Riga on the 11th of January, 1991.
